E-Scooter pilot zipping around Cranbrook

By Erin Knutson

The Bird Canada E-Scooter Pilot Program has taken off, offering a convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation across Cranbrook. This summer, e-scooters will be readily available, ensuring diverse mobility options for both locals and tourists, and contributing to a cleaner and less congested city.

“This will be a great alternative transportation option for people, and I am interested to see how well these e-scooters are being used,” said Mayor Wayne Price (pictured right).

E-scooters have been zipping around the city over the past couple of weeks thanks to the Bird app, created as a user-friendly point of access for riders in designated operational zones across Cranbrook.

Bird Canada launched 100 scooters for the project at Rotary Park on June 3. The pilot will run until November of this year and will help with traffic flow while providing a different mode of travel.

“We are excited to bring our e-scooter program to Cranbrook and start servicing more residents and visitors in B.C., said Patrick Graham, General Manager for Bird Canada.

Graham touted their success in 25 other cities and five provinces. According to his outline of the program parameters, safety is a paramount feature of the initiative, and preventive measures are in place to prevent intoxicated customers or individuals under 16 from accessing the device.

Speeds cannot exceed 24 km/h, and pedestrians or motorists can report any concerns to [email protected] or via the app’s “community” mode.

“We look forward to collaborating closely with the City of Cranbrook to ensure the success of this pilot program and look forward to establishing a long-term partnership for sustainable transportation solutions,” said Graham.
