Obituary of Wayne Butler
Wayne Butler
It’s with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Robert “Wayne” Butler.
Wayne was born at the Fernie Hospital on October 16, 1955 from his loving parents Robert and Evie Butler.
He was raised in Cranbrook BC, and did all his grade schooling in Cranbrook, and graduated from Mount Baker Secondary School in 1973. Wayne spent several months in Kelowna where he did his mechanic training course, after which he returned to Kootenay Truck and Saw where he learned the most from his father Bob. He worked alongside his dad until his brother, David and him took over the business in 1992. He remained co-owner until they sold the business in 2018 marking 46 years working at Kootenay Truck and Saw. Wayne was always available and gave exceptional customer care as he appreciated each person who walked the doors of Kootenay Truck and Saw. He was known as the “Wizard” that could fix the unfixable, because he knew he held his clients lively-hoods in his hands.
Many a fun summer was spent as a family with good friends at Moyie Provincial Park. Camping, bonfires, playing cards, fishing and so much laughter filled our hearts. Wayne could often be found on the curling rink, golf course and the baseball diamond with his wife, son, and friends. He was a quiet competitor with a great sense of humour who people loved to play with or against. He was a respected calm presence in every game he played. His love for curling and golf was something he shared with his wife Donna, so it’s understandable she is still jealous of his two 8-enders and two holes in one. His swing was nice and “easy”, just like him. We love you Wayne, you will be deeply missed by all.
As a family we would also like to say a great thanks to Dr. Dorrian Mah and all the other healthcare professionals that worked with him over the last two years.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Donna, children Robyn Graham, and Bradley Letain, grandchildren Kensington and Dallin Graham, as well as, Luke, Cole, and Liam Letain, chosen children Stephine Marner, and Rene Low, chosen grandchildren Journey Marner, and Finn Low, siblings Carol Hatala and husband Jerry Hatala, David Butler and his wife Frances Butler, aunts Judy, May, and Joyce, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other loving family from the far north to the sunny south.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents Bob and Evie Butler and numerous aunts and uncles who he loved dearly.
