Antonia “Toni” Maerkl

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Antonia Maerkl, who left us peacefully on June 3, 2025. Born in Olching, Germany, on June 21, 1938, Antonia lived a life filled with dedication, love, and resilience.

Antonia grew up in Germany and pursued a sewing apprenticeship as a young woman. She was married to Adolf Maerkl in 1958 and had a family with him. In 1974, Adolf and Antonia immigrated to Cranbrook, British Columbia, with their children, enjoying the mountains and natural beauty of the Kootenays. She was predeceased by Adolf in 1978, then became well known in her community for her work as a seamstress.

Toni had a great love for her children Theo, Petra (Barry) Stewart and Andrea (Nasir), her grandchildren, Kendra, Kayla, Chelsey (Lyle) Hodges, Devon, Arman, Brendan, Nina (Keith) and Donya as well as her great grandchildren Matana, Halle, Carson, Lukas, Jaxon, Cohen, Cali and Aliya.

She was well loved in her Church Community, where she was a driving force, doing the work of many even into her eighties, with her service in the church as well as bringing communion to those in need, she enjoyed her many friendships, service and faith in God.

Toni will be remembered for her unwavering spirit and love for family and will forever be cherished.

A Prayer Service for Toni will take place on Friday June 13,  2025 at 7pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook, British Columbia. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday June 14, 2025  at 11:00 am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cranbrook with a private family interment to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
