Obituary of Gerald Arthur “Gerry” Kemp

Gerald Arthur “Gerry” Kemp

The family of Gerald Arthur (Gerry) Kemp, aged 87, of Kimberley, BC, is sad to announce that he passed away peacefully and with dignity on May 31, 2025 in Cranbrook, BC

Gerry was born on April 17, 1938, in Camrose, AB to Sydney John (Jack) and Gladys Kemp.  While he was born in Camrose he grew up on Shaver’s Bench in Trail, BC.  There are many stories of the adventures of him and his friends from that time.  Gerry was a skier from an early age and was a downhill ski racer, ski jumper and eventually a cross country skier along with bike racer, hiker, and runner.  Over the years he accumulated a large number of medals and awards both locally, provincially, nationally and even internationally.   He was instrumental in the start and growth of the Kimberley Nordic Club serving on the executive for many years.

Gerry retired from his career as an electrician with Cominco but his priority was his family, friends, travelling, camping, and sports.  He was known for his quiet nature and infectious smile!

Gerry is survived by his wife Marge as well as children: Stacey (Penticton. BC), Stephen (Marta – Kimberley, BC), Nancy (Kelowna, BC), and Wendy (Steve – Meadowbrook, BC); Marge’s children: Corey (Katie – Victoria, BC), Jason (Katherine – Cranbrook, BC) and David (Charlotte – Cranbrook, BC).  Grandchildren: Dustin Greenall (Tayler),  Justine Speaker (Eric) of Cranbrook, BC, Jordan Greenall (Kimberley, BC), Cedar Kemp (Jade – Marysville, BC), Pollen Kemp (Revelstoke, BC), Jaimee Spring, Sam Spring, Dexter Spring (Victoria, BC), Jonah Spring, Jack Spring, Will Spring (Cranbrook, BC) and great grandchildren Hensley and Asher Greenall  (Cranbrook, BC).  Gerry is also survived by his sister Shirley Geiger (Butch – Trail, BC), sister-in-law (Carolyn Kemp – Trail, BC) and many nieces and nephews and great friends. He was surrounded by a whole lot of love and will be deeply missed!

He was predeceased by his parents, brother Darryl, and nephew Ryan.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Kimberley Nordic Club.  Donations to the Kimberley Nordic Club or the Cranbrook Regional Hospital in his name will be appreciated.
