Obituary of Donna Fay Collison

Donna Fay Collison (nee Berday)

Donna Fay Collison (nee Berday), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away early Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia. She was 84 years old.

Donna was born November 7, 1940 in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Abraham Berday and Margaret Berday (nee McNamee). She was the eldest of five children.

Donna met her husband, Brian, in her hometown of Estevan, Saskatchewan when Brian played hockey for the Estevan Bruins. They were married in Estevan on May 17, 1963, and had three sons, Glenn, Kelly, and Patrick. Through 62 years of marriage, the family moved several times, living in Jacksonville, Florida; Estevan, Saskatchewan; as well as Smithers, Terrace, and Duncan, British Columbia, before finally settling in Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1977. Donna and Brian enjoyed wintering in Mexico and Arizona, and spending their summers at Koocanusa Lake.

Donna is remembered fondly for her care and service to others. She devoted her life to her family, raising her three sons, then spoiling her five grandchildren rotten. Once her boys got older, Donna attended East Kootenay Community College, then worked as a long-term residential care aide at Dr FW Green Memorial Home until retirement. Donna’s loving nature drew others in, and she made friends anywhere she visited. Her family and friends were her greatest joy in life, and she took every opportunity to host and bring everyone together. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Margaret Berday, and her brother, Milton Berday. She is survived by her husband, Brian Collison; three children, Glenn (Carol) Collison, Kelly (Jo-Ann) Collison, and Patrick (Karen) Collison; five grandchildren, Cody, Brielle, Breanne, Samantha, and Ayden; and brother, Richard (Tania) Berday.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to Angel Flight East Kootenay (www.angelflightek.ca). Her family looks forward to gathering with you on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 2:00pm, at the Prestige Inn in Cranbrook, to celebrate her life.
