Marcel passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 79.

Born in Valcourt, Quebec to Romuald Fournier and Gabrielle Choinière; Marcel lived a life filled with quiet strength, kindness, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was a man of integrity and warmth, whose presence brought comfort and steadiness to all who knew him.

Marcel was a Mechanic by trade and spent part of his career working in research and development with Bombardier, where he contributed to innovation in a company known worldwide for its excellence.  After moving his family to Canal Flats, he pursued a career in the forestry industry starting as a logger then transitioned to the local sawmill where he retired as a watchman. Marcel took pride in his work and was respected for his skill, dedication, and thoughtful approach.

Outside of work, Marcel found joy in the outdoors and working with his hands.  He especially enjoyed quadding, camping, fishing, and spent countless hours tinkering in his garage.  In his younger years hockey and auto racing were his ultimate passions, which stayed with him throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Jeanne d’Arc and their three children: Simon Fournier (Sherry), Cattie Marchand (Donald) and Mathieu Fournier (Leslie). Marcel was a devoted husband and together they raised a loving family whom he cherished above all else.  He was an attentive and devoted grandfather to Bryce, Nikkyla, Kellen, Allissa, Dawson (Arianne), Darcy, Jonah and great-grandfather to August. He beamed with pride watching them grow and especially loved attending their sporting events.  His legacy lives on in the hearts of the generations who loved him so deeply.

He leaves behind his brothers Marc, Michel, Robert and sister Louise (Claude) as well as extended family and friends.  He is reunited with his father Romuald, mother Gabrielle and brother Jacques.

A celebration of Marcel’s life will be held on August 23rd at 2pm at the Canal Flats Arena. All are welcomed to attend and share memories of a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marcel’s memory to causes close to his heart, including Mental Health, Autism, and Type 1 Diabetes awareness and support organizations.

He will be remembered always for his gentle heart, steady presence, and the love he gave so freely.

Marcel s’est éteint paisiblement, entouré de sa famille à l’âge de 79 ans.

Né à Valcourt, Québec, fils de Romuald Fournier et Gabrielle Choinière, Marcel a mené une vie empreinte de force tranquille, de gentillesse et d’un profond dévouement envers ceux qu’il aimait. C’était un homme intègre et chaleureux, dont la présence apportait réconfort et stabilité à tous ceux qui le connaissaient.

Mécanicien de métier, Marcel a consacré une partie de sa carrière à la recherche et au développement chez Bombardier, où il a contribué à l’innovation au sein d’une entreprise reconnue mondialement pour son excellence. Après avoir déménagé sa famille à Canal Flats, il a poursuivi une carrière dans l’industrie forestière, débutant comme bûcheron avant de travailler à la scierie locale, où il a pris sa retraite en tant que gardien. Marcel était fier de son travail et respecté pour ses compétences, son dévouement et son approche réfléchie.

En dehors du travail, Marcel trouvait du bonheur dans la nature et les travaux manuels. Il aimait particulièrement faire du quad, camper, pêcher, et passait d’innombrables heures à bricoler dans son garage. Dans sa jeunesse, le hockey et les courses d’automobiles étaient ses grandes passions, qui l’ont accompagné tout au long de sa vie.

Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse bien-aimée de 56 ans, Jeanne d’Arc, ainsi que leurs trois enfants : Simon Fournier (Sherry), Cattie Marchand (Donald) et Mathieu Fournier (Leslie). Marcel était un mari dévoué et ensemble, ils ont élevé une famille aimante qu’il adorait plus que tout. Il était un grand-père attentif et dévoué pour Bryce, Nikkyla, Kellen, Allissa, Dawson (Arianne), Darcy, Jonah, et un arrière-grand-père pour August. Il rayonnait de fierté en les voyant grandir et adorait les encourager lors de leurs événements sportifs. Son héritage vivra dans le cœur des générations qui l’ont tant aimé.

Il laisse également dans le deuil ses frères Marc, Michel, Robert, sa sœur Louise (Claude), ainsi que sa famille élargie et ses amis. Il rejoint dans l’au-delà son père Romuald, sa mère Gabrielle et son frère Jacques.

Une célébration de la vie de Marcel aura lieu le 23 août à 14h à l’aréna de Canal Flats. Tous sont les bienvenus pour venir partager leurs souvenirs d’une vie bien remplie.

En lieu de fleurs, des dons peuvent être faits à la mémoire de Marcel aux causes qui lui tenaient à cœur, notamment la santé mentale, l’autisme et la sensibilisation au diabète de type 1.

On se souviendra toujours de lui pour son cœur tendre, sa présence rassurante et l’amour qu’il offrait si généreusement.
