Obituary of Richard Byron English

Richard Byron “ByGuy” English

May 1, 1944  –  August 27, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Byron “ByGuy” English, aged 81, who left us peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Cranbrook. Born on May 1, 1944, in Saskatoon, Byron lived a life of service, dedication, and love.

Byron served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for 17 years, embodying the values of duty and community. Following his distinguished career with the RCMP, he transitioned into a successful role as a financial advisor, where he continued to serve others with wisdom and care until his retirement. Known affectionately as ByGuy, Big Red, and Papa G, he left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A natural storyteller, Byron had a knack for sharing tales—always with a twinkle in his eye—and he was never one to rush a good story. Those who knew him will fondly remember his humor, warmth, and ability to connect people through his words.

Byron cherished spending time with family and friends, enjoying camping with loved ones, fishing and hunting with his father, brother, son, nephew, and many friends, and sharing many rounds of golf with his daughter. In his younger years, he was an avid participant in baseball, curling, and hockey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon; his son, Riley, and partner Kari, and their children Kaleb and Kenzie; his daughter, Sarah, and her husband Rohn, and their children Evva and Fischer; his brother, Murray English; and his sisters, Glenda English and Janine Silgailis. Byron’s legacy also lives on through extended family and friends who will forever cherish his steadfast strength, sharp wit, and deep love for his family.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard, and mother, Audrey.

A service to celebrate Byron’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM at McPherson Funeral Services. A follow-up gathering will be held at the Cranbrook Golf Course. The Service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. Click the following link to view: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/richard-byron-english-celebration-of-life
