2025-10-02 Officers were dispatched to a report of a grizzly bear attack near Fort Steele. Officers attended and secured the scene to prevent the bear from returning while Emergency Health Services worked to extricate the severely injured man. Once the victim had been airlifted from the scene officers assisted BC Conservation service with attempts to locate the bear. Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family during his recovery.

2025-10-10 Police responded to a collision involving a semi and a pickup truck near the 7000 block of Highway 3/93. Reports indicated that a pick-up truck had crossed the centre line of the highway sideswiping an oncoming semi, who attempted to avoid collision by pulling off to the shoulder of the highway. The highway was closed until the vehicles could be cleared. The driver of the pickup was detained and after failing a roadside breath test was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) and his vehicle was impounded. No injuries were reported.

Our officers booked 16 individuals into Cranbrook cells including five individuals held for intoxication, four individuals arrested on outstanding warrants, three individuals held for court appearances, two held for a cause a disturbance, and two individuals were held for bail hearings for breaching conditions.

In addition to calls for service officers were also out conducting curfew checks and proactive patrols resulting in two Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRP’s) being issued and instances of breach charges being forwarded. We also were able to support seven Project 529 bike registration sessions at schools and in the community.
