The story of a polio survivor
Rotary Club of Cranbrook members and guests heard an emotional and heartfelt story from Karin Penner about surviving polio Oct. 23.
The service club later posted a brief report on the presentation:
At a young age, Karin contracted polio which led to months of pain, paralysis, physio therapy and massage.
Her family, her doctor, Nurse Rose, all supported her through this time. Her determination and strength helped her to beat this horrific disease and come through it stronger than ever.
The two-wheel bike she thought she would never be able to ride; the strength to walk along with the Bugle Band; the joy of raising two sons. Things we may take for granted and events that many never had the chance to enjoy. A polio survivor…
Heidi Romich (right) has seen the devastation caused by polio while participating in National Immunization Days, joining other Rotarians from around the world who are dedicated to END POLIO NOW!
Karin knows first-hand that vaccines work. She urged Rotary to continue the fight to eradicate polio. Karin’s last comment: “Get your shot, dammit!”
Thank you Mrs. P for sharing your story.
Polio is not curable, but it is preventable.
