Obituary of Randall Steven Simpson
Randall “Randy” Steven Simpson
The family announces with great sadness the passing of Randall “Randy” Steven Simpson, who left us peacefully in Cranbrook, British Columbia, on September 28, 2025, at the age of 63. Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Randy was the youngest child of Emerson and Marie Anna (Anne) Simpson.
Randy was a man of generosity and heart — the kind of person who would drop everything to lend a hand. Whether changing a neighbour’s tires, tackling yard work after a long day, or helping friends with projects around town, he lived his life with quiet kindness and a strong sense of community.
After spending his early years in Northern Ontario, Randy followed his love of the outdoors westward, settling in Elkford, B.C., where he found both work and peace in the mountains he cherished. He was happiest in nature — riding his quad through the backcountry, fishing, and taking in the wild beauty of the Rockies. However, he never forgot where home was and returned every summer for a visit with the family.
Randy had a lighthearted spirit that brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. He loved good food, good company, and sharing simple moments with family and friends. Whether at a backyard barbecue, a family dinner, or a quiet visit, he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease. His playful humour and teasing nature always lifted the mood, and his laughter was often the spark that made a gathering complete.
Above all, Randy had a genuine and caring heart. His kindness, humour, and love will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Randy will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Marie Anna (Anne) Simpson, of Sudbury, ON; his siblings Allan (Maureen) of Capreol, ON, and Dawn-Ellen Cottrell (Dave) of Hanmer, ON; as well as his many nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched with his warmth, humour, and quiet strength.
He was predeceased by his father, Emerson Simpson, and his brother, Gary “Simon” Emerson Simpson. The family takes comfort in knowing that Randy and Gary are once again together — two brothers side by side, exploring new trails beneath endless skies.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Wendy Huisman of Elkford and Drayson Parker of Cranbrook for their care, kindness, and support to Randy. Your generosity and compassion brought him great comfort and friendship, and the family will always be deeply grateful.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held at a later date in Sudbury, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Forest Canada at https://forestscanada.ca/en/product/donation in honour of Randy’s lifelong love of nature and the great outdoors.
