Hunting restricted in Cranbrook Community Forest

The Cranbrook Community Forest (CCF) is designated as an Interpretive Forest Site under Section 56 of the Forest and Range Practices Act.

Hunting, trapping, or discharging a firearm, bow, or crossbow within the CCF is restricted under the Forest Recreation Regulations.

As defined in the Forest Recreation Regulation:

  • Unless authorized by a recreation officer; it is unlawful to trap or discharge a firearm, bow or crossbow on or into:
  • The developed portion of a Recreation Site or Interpretive Forest.
  • The “developed portion”, refers to that area that extends 100m in all directions from a structure, day use area, camping area, trail staging area, or similar area.
  • Any portion of a Recreation Trail where a prohibition has been posted.
  • It is unlawful to dispose of game residue in the developed portion of a recreation site.

The Cranbrook Community Forest exists for safe, shared public recreation, hiking, biking, running, nature appreciation, and education. Hunting activities create serious safety risks and contravene provincial regulations.

Find more information about Provincial Recreation Orders and regulations or www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca.

Additionally, please refer to pages nine and 40 of the BC Hunting & Trapping Regulations Synopsis for further details on restrictions within Recreation Areas and Interpretive Forests.

If you witness something contrary to the above, do not be confrontational; please try to get as much descriptive information as you can about the individual and the vehicle (photos of license etc.) pin the location if possible and report it to the RAPP hotline (toll-free in B.C.): 1-877-952-7277 (1-877-952-RAPP) and advise the CCF Board either through Facebook messenger or via email [email protected]

Thank you for helping keep the CCF safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Happy trails!
