Water Quality Advisory and road closure coming

Please be advised that due to an urgently required water main repair, water service will temporarily be interrupted for much of the Ridgemont community in Fernie. See attached map for details of houses affected.

Affected homes will have interrupted water service starting Wednesday, November 19 from approximately 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., and again Thursday November 20 approximately 8:30 a.m.- 6 p.m.

There will be a full road closure at the corner of Ridgemont Drive and Ridgemont Crescent to support the work. Ridgemont residents will need to access their houses from 4th Street and 13th Street as necessary.

Please respect signage and allow crews to safely and efficiently complete the repairs. Access accommodation will be made for residents within the work zone. See attached road closure map.

To ensure you are prepared for this event, consider filling buckets or other containers with drinking water. Additionally, you may wish to fill your bathtub to maintain an extra supply of water for general use.

After service is restored, if the water is cloudy please your run cold water tap (with screen off) at the lowest point in the house or from a frost-free outdoor bib until it is clear.

We understand that this interruption may cause inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation as our crews work to complete these repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

Water Quality Advisory during and after the repair:

Due to the repair, Ridgemont will be under a water advisory until we receive notice that water quality is restored, approximately one week.

While health risks are considered low, the City of Fernie and Interior Health recommend that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and anyone seeking additional protection drink boiled water or a safe alternative until further notice. For these at-risk populations, water intended for drinking, washing fruits or vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute.

If you would like to receive automatic email updates on water quality, please contact [email protected] or call 250-423-6817 to register.
