Fatal pedestrian collision and second crash under investigation
On November 17, at approximately 12:09 p.m., Cranbrook RCMP responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cranbrook Street N and Victoria Avenue S. A vehicle struck a traffic light post, tragically resulting in the death of a 71-year-old male pedestrian standing at this location.
The driver, a 50-year-old female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Cranbrook RCMP extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time.
While officers were still on scene conducting an investigation, a second motor-vehicle collision occurred just outside the secured area at approximately 3:40 p.m.
Preliminary information indicates a vehicle turned in front of another vehicle, resulting the crash. The driver involved in the second collision was transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital for treatment and was administered a sobriety test.
Both incidents remain under active and separate investigation by the Cranbrook RCMP.
Investigators ask anyone who may have dash-camera footage, or business CCTV footage of the incident or the driving leading up to the collision to contact the Cranbrook RCMP detachment at 250-489-3471.
