Obituary of Louisa Langton Sharpe
Louisa (Lisa) Langton Sharpe
It is with heavy hearts our family announces the peaceful passing of Louisa (Lisa) Langton Sharpe. Lisa was born with her identical twin sister Trudy on August 1, 1935, in Kimberley, BC to Arthur and Mary Pentland. Lisa grew up in Kimberley, Sheep Creek and Nelson, where she and Trudy graduated high school.
In the 1950s Lisa moved to Vancouver and attended UBC where she met James (Jim) Sharpe and they married on October 8, 1956. While living in Vancouver they raised three children Mary, Eric and Jean.
In 1981 Lisa and Jim moved from Vancouver to the East Kootenay where they built their house on Colony Road in Mayook. Lisa was very happy to return to the East Kootenay region where she felt at home. They enjoyed 25 years on Colony Road and Lisa always loved the view of “her mountains” the Steeples Range. During that time, they especially enjoyed 11 years living next door to their brother and sister-in-law John and Joan Sharpe. In 2006 Lisa and Jim moved from Mayook to Marysville so they could be closer to family and their Kimberley friends who they enjoyed traveling, golfing and curling with.
Lisa and Jim were avid travelers and ventured to many parts of the world but a few of their favourite destinations were their cabin on Mayne Island in the BC Gulf Islands, Hawaii, Iceland, the Provence area of France, London and Australia. Many lifelong friendships were created while traveling and they passed the ‘travel bug’ to their children and grandchildren.
Lisa was a very talented seamstress and while the children were young, she made many of their outfits, along with beautiful clothes for herself. In 1985 Lisa was instrumental in starting the Cranbrook Quilters Guild and became the first President of the Guild. She loved quilting and became an expert at hand stitching but her favourite part of the process was working with the fabric colours and designs. For those who are lucky enough to have one of Lisa’s creations they know the love, time and effort put into each piece. Due to complications from a stroke in 2015 Lisa could no longer see well enough to quilt however she maintained her connection with the Guild, and she was thrilled to have her last quilt finished by current Guild members.
Lisa loved to read and was always quick to correct our grammar, and she had a wonderful sense of humour. She was a long time Toronto Blue Jays fan and loved watching baseball games on tv while wearing her jersey. We all hoped the Blue Jays would win the World Series this year for her. She was surrounded by many loyal friends who she dearly loved. Her ‘Stitch and Bitch’ and ‘Nine and Dine’ friends were very important to her. Lisa’s drink of choice was a dry martini with purple gin and two olives – and she always had room for a ‘yap’ more. She had a very positive outlook on life and rarely complained about anything.
Family was very important to Lisa. She and Jim cultured a close-knit family filled with love. She is survived by her children: Mary & Ken Green, Eric & Doreen Sharpe, and Jean & George Terpsma; her grandchildren Jeffrey (Kayley), Lisa (Jared), Kristen (Rob), James (Madison), Heather (Aidan), Blake (Elise), Kate (Evan), and Doug (Leanne); seven great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law John and Joan Sharpe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lisa was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Mary Pentland, husband Jim Sharpe and sister Trudy Friesen.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kari Nishi for her kind and compassionate care of Lisa.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held in the Spring, her favourite time of year.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health or the charity of your choice.
