Eagles and Lions help celebrate the lights

As usual, Cranbrook residents have pulled out all the stops and have hit decorate mode to celebrate the Christmas season.

In a continuation of its Christmas Light-Up event, the Lions and Eagles clubs organized a wonderful tour of these fabulous efforts of lifting the holiday spirit.

Youth Ambassadors and local Lions gather to be ready for their guests.

Members of the Lions and Eagles clubs have been baking up a storm.

Eight busses picked up about 160 seniors from around town. The busses gathered at the Eagles Hall on Kootenay Street, where several of the seniors had gathered. Followed by a couple of other private cars with those who couldn’t fit on the busses, the parade left off about 6:15 p.m. And those bus drivers had volunteered their time.

Following the tour, the seniors were brought back to the Eagles Hall to be greeted at the door by an enthusiastic group of young ladies of the Cranbrook Spirit of the Rockies Ambassadors program, singing vociferously all the great Christmas carols so familiar to all.

The tables were festively set in the hall and a sandwich snack with coffee and dessert sweets were served.

Eagles, Lions and their spouses had prepared sandwiches, sweets and gallons and gallons of coffee. All of these goodies were served by the Youth Ambassadors as well as Cranbrook’s mayor and several Cranbrook councillors.

The local musical trio, Side by Side, were there to entertain the crowd as they enjoyed their snacks. The group played and sang through a large repertoire of seasonal Christmas fare. The band and the Ambassadors led the entire group in a sing-a-long to lift the spirits of all in attendance.

Lions Club president Curtis Bell and Mayor Wayne Price addressed the crowd, thanking the organizers and suppliers, and wishing one and all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

When all was sung and done, the guests were given a treat bag as they left with some fruit and a few sugary sweets.  The fruit was donated by the Superstore.  And the best part of all, is that the Lions and the Eagles are going to do it again next year.
