Rockies give fans New Year’s treat
By Stephanie Stevens
New Year’s Eve at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena needed no fireworks to inspire noise from the crowd.

The 750 fans in the stands cheered the Columbia Valley Rockies on to a shut-out against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats with a final score of 4-0.
The Rockies have struggled this season and are currently in last place in the Eddie Mountain Division having won only eight of 28 games, but the Dec 31 tilt saw more cohesive play.
Harrison Todd (assists from Parker Cutts and Chance Cole) started off the scoring in the first, followed by Lachlan Hanton (Johnny Lozeman).
There were no second period goals but the third saw Hanton (Jack Miller) pot another, with Brayden Roe (Trae Lees and Cole) with number four.
Goalie Piet Mierau stopped 35 of 35 shots on net.

The boys then stumbled a bit against the Golden Rockets Jan. 2, losing 6-3.
Goals in the away game were scored by Cole King, unassisted, and Carter Hensch (Lozeman and Ethan Cerone) in the first. The third saw Peter Godley (Cutts and Cerone) add another to the tally but it wasn’t enough to take the game.
Mierau was in net stopping 16 of 22 shots.
The Rockies coaches and players were unavailable for comment following the games.
The next home games are this Saturday, Jan. 10 and Tuesday, Jan. 13. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
