Local golden at Swiss European Cup Ski Cross race
Canadian Ski Cross racer and Fernie local Kaleb Barnum continued his outstanding 2026 season with a gold medal performance at the European Cup on Saturday, January 16, in Lenk, Switzerland.
Competing against a strong international field, the Fernie local led the Men’s Ski Cross race to claim the top spot on the podium. Switzerland’s Richard Lucas earned the silver medal, while Germany’s Niklas Illig captured bronze.
Barnum, a member of the Canadian Ski Cross Team, has been building momentum throughout the season with consistent top finishes in Chile, Canada and Europe. His victory in Lenk further cements his reputation as one of Canada’s rising forces in Ski Cross racing.
With speed, precision, and confidence on display, Barnum’s gold medal performance highlights both his individual progress and the strength of Canada’s Ski Cross program as the season continues.
Kaleb Barnum is a 21-year-old Ski Cross athlete from Fernie, British Columbia and a member of the Canadian Ski Cross Team.
He began ski racing with the Fernie Alpine Ski Team, later competing for the Calgary Dinos while attending the University of Calgary and developing his skills through Evolve Ski Cross. Kaleb now trains and races internationally across North America, South America and Europe, proudly representing Canada on the world stage.
