Ghostriders goalie named to Team of the Week
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Feb. 28.
Goaltender
Kael Svenson – Fernie Ghostriders
The Calgary native turned aside 36 of 37 shots in a 5-1 win over the Kimberley Dynamiters. Svenson was perfect in a heavily test the second period, stopping all 17 shots he faced, and finished with a .973 save percentage and 1.00 goals-against average.
Forwards
Callum MacLean – Merritt Centennials
The Yellowknife native erupted for six goals and nine points in two games. He scored four times — including the insurance marker — and added two assists in an 8-1 win over the Kelowna Chiefs. In a 7-2 victory against the Quesnel River Rush, MacLean opened the scoring and assisted on the winner. He averaged 17:23 of ice time and finished +10.
Walker Overwater – Revelstoke Grizzlies
The Olds, Alta., native tallied five goals and eight points in two games, highlighted by a four-goal, seven-point performance against his former team, the Sicamous Eagles, where he also set up the winner. Overwater added the insurance goal in a win over the Osoyoos Coyotes. He was +8 while averaging 14:47 per game.
Maddox Gandha – Beaver Valley Nitehawks
The Trail product recorded four goals and five points in two games. Gandha scored both the winner and insurance goal against the Castlegar Rebels and chipped in an assist. He followed that with two goals — including another insurance marker — against the Grand Forks Border Bruins. Gandha finished +5, averaging 13:57 a game.
Defence
Lukas Masters – Merritt Centennials
The Edmonton native picked up five assists in two games as the Centennials earned 8-1 and 7-2 wins over the Chiefs and River Rush, respectively. Masters helped set up the opening goal and the insurance marker against Quesnel. He was +7 and averaged 21:04 per game.
Diego Smith – Revelstoke Grizzlies
Smith recorded four assists in two wins, helping the Grizzlies defeat the Osoyoos Coyotes 5-2 and the Sicamous Eagles 7-1. He assisted on the 2-2 and 4-1 goals against Osoyoos, then set up the winner and the 4-0 goal versus Sicamous. Smith finished +5 while averaging 20:25 of ice time.
KIJHL
