Nitros’ defender KIJHL Star of the Week
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Stars of the Week for the period ending March 15.
Defence – Nathan Laforge – Kimberley Dynamiters
The second-year defenceman from St. Albert, Alta., had a goal and three points in two games to help the Dynamiters sweep the Columbia Valley Rockies in the first round of the KIJHL Championships. In Game 3, LaForge scored the insurance goal in a 4-1 win, then collected two assists in Game 4 6-0 win – setting up the 3-0 goal. LaForge ended up with two goals and four points in the first round.
Forward – Will Bell – Princeton Posse
The Dunmore, Alta., native was a key offensive driver helping the Posse force their series against the Kelowna Chiefs to Game 7. Bell had four goals and eight points in four games, highlighted by two three-point performances and he scored on both special teams. He also netted a winner and an insurance goal. Bell was counted on heavily playing an average of 23:24 a game and was +5. He finished the opening round with five goals and 11 points in seven games.
Goalie – Sam Saskiw- Merritt Centennials
The Sherwood, Park, Alta., native had an impressive first playoff run for the Centennials. In his final two games against the Revelstoke Grizzlies, he earned his first shutout with a 34-save performance and stopped a total of 61 of 62 shots. Saskiw didn’t complete Game 4 due to an injury. He posted a 0.61 goals against average and .984 SP. In 4 games during the KIJHL Championship, Saskiw had a 2.95 GAA and a.927 SP.
