Clarence Hilton Smith
On March 5, 2026 our beloved Clarence passed away peacefully in Invermere B.C. Clarence Hilton Smith was born in Oak Bay New Brunswick on August 3,1939.
Clarence moved to Trail B.C. In Trail Clarence would meet the love of his life Catherine Bonde in July of 1961 and they would marry in May of 1962. They started their married life in Kitimat where Clarence worked for B.C Tel. They transferred to Hudson’s Hope where Clarence became the Fire Chief and helped construct the original firehall. They stayed there for 3 years, later transferring to Cache Creek. It was there where they welcomed their first daughter Lauire. After their time in Cache Creek they transferred to Fernie where their youngest daughter Terri was born. The family first settled in west Fernie but later purchased property on Bricker’s Rd, this is where Clarence turn a parcel of land into their long-time home where they would live for the next 50 years. In 2023 Clarence and Catherine relocated to Invermere to be closer to family.
Clarence’s kindness extended to anyone who needed it, he was very handy and would help anyone with projects big or small. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Clarence is survived by his Daughters Laurie Smith (Bryan), Terri (Barry) Lightfoot, Grandchildren Blayr and Taylor, Great – Grandson Waylen.
At Clarence’s request there will be no service.
