Our dynamic East Kootenay skies of March
By Dan Hicks
With our full Crow Moon comfortably ensconced in spring constellation Leo the lion, from Lake Windermere south to Cranbrook – the great total lunar eclipse of March 3, 2026 revealed itself in a clear East Kootenay predawn sky; umbral shadow totality endured for 59 minutes – 04:04 to 05:03 MST.
Lead image: This is a diagrammatic representation of our March 3 total lunar eclipse as it would have appeared from Wycliffe, complete with a couple of horses and a constellational outline of Leo the lion. The “reversed question mark” with star Regulus at its base, is Leo’s distinguished asterism (and a beacon over Pine Butte Ranch). Sky & Telescope magazine, March 2026.
