Wildfire Risk Reduction work completed

Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction crews have completed winter and spring field work in the Baker Road area and within the Cranbrook Community Forest.

As part of these treatments, surface fuels and small-diameter trees were removed and placed into burn piles. These piles are an important step in reducing ground and ladder fuels and improving wildfire resiliency around the community.

Burn piles in both project areas will remain in place throughout the summer months. These piles require time to cure and will be safely burned in the fall when conditions allow, in accordance with provincial regulations and the Ministry of Environment’s Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation.

For the safety of the public and the crews working in these areas, we ask that motor vehicles not enter the treatment sites. This helps protect the integrity of the fuel reduction work and reduces the risk of accidental ignition or damage to equipment.

Crews will return in the fall to complete burning operations once weather, moisture, and smoke management conditions are appropriate. Signage will be posted during active work, and the public’s continued cooperation is appreciated in respecting closures and work zones.
