Perry Creek area to be included in Rockyview OCP

The Regional District of East Kootenay Board of Directors has moved to include an un-zoned area in Perry Creek in the draft Rockyview Official Community Plan (OCP) and consolidated zoning bylaw.

“The Rockyview OCP planning process has been underway for several months and will create one OCP and one zoning bylaw for the western portion of Electoral Area C,” explained Electoral Area C Director Rob Gay.

“This includes updating the existing OCP, consolidating it with the existing Moyie and Area OCP, Wycliffe Zoning Bylaw, and Electoral Area C South Zoning Bylaw. As we were working to bring all of these different pieces together, it also presented an opportunity to consider whether to introduce zoning for Perry Creek/Old Town.”

Residents of the area who are opposed to the introduction of zoning have shared concerns about the impact it could have on their land use flexibility and values, the potential for duplicating layers of regulation, and their desire to remain un-zoned.

“We heard the residents’ concerns and the importance they place on maintaining their sense of community. The OCP process is about looking ahead – guiding long-term growth based on the community’s vision, while working to protect the character, livability, and future of the area for generations to come.”

Now that the board has made the decision to include the Perry Creek/Old Town area in the planning process, staff will continue to engage with residents.

“I am grateful for the strong engagement we have seen from residents so far, and I encourage them to continue to be part of the process. The more involvement the entire community has in this next step, the more the plan will reflect their collective vision,” stressed Gay.

In the fall of 2025, several open houses and community workshops were held throughout the Rockyview OCP area to gather resident ideas and priorities prior to the updates in the OCP.

A revised draft will be available for public review in mid 2026. Further details about the process can be found on engage.rdek.bc.ca/rockyview.
