Local gymnast makes history earning spot on Team BC

Mila Sinclair, 14, of Cranbrook is set to compete at the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics Canadian Championships in Oshawa, Ontario, taking place May 25-29.

Mila will be representing Team BC and is making history as the first female athlete from Cranbrook to qualify for this level of national competition.

As a CCP Level 10 gymnast, she has demonstrated exceptional consistency and performance throughout the season. Earlier this year, Mila also earned the opportunity to represent British Columbia at the 2026 Western Canadian Championships, further highlighting her success.

“I’m really excited to compete at Canadian Championships,” said Mila. “I’ve been training hard, and I’m grateful for my coaches Gary and Michelle Ricks and Mady Sandberg, as well as my family, for helping me get here.”

Key City Gymnastics Head Coach Garry Ricks will attend the Championships as an assistant coach for the Level 10 Junior team, further representing the Cranbrook gymnastics community on the national stage.

The 2026 Artistic Canadian Gymnastics Championships bring together the country’s top athletes for a week of high-level competition, showcasing strength, precision, and artistry across all apparatus.

As the premier national event in Canadian gymnastics, the Championships provide athletes with the opportunity to represent their provinces and compete for national titles against the very best in the country.

For Mila, qualifying for this event marks a significant milestone in her gymnastics journey.

Reaching the National Championships at the CCP Level 10 Junior level reflects years of dedication, discipline, and progression through the sport. It places her among Canada’s top developing athletes and provides invaluable experience competing on a national stage—an essential step for those aspiring to advance to higher levels of competition.

Mila’s achievements this season not only highlight her talent and work ethic but also represent an important moment for gymnastics in Cranbrook, inspiring the next generation of athletes in the community.
