Increase in online frauds

Fraud Warning – Columbia Valley RCMP is seeing an increase in online scams targeting residents through email and text messages. Recent reports involve victims being convinced to invest in cryptocurrency or participate in the recovery of large sums of money, resulting in significant financial loss.

Know the signs: Urgent requests for money, Suspicious links or messages, Unsolicited contact from “official” sources, Payment requests via e-transfer, crypto, or gift cards. If it seems too good to be true, it likely is. Take time to verify before sending money.

Local RCMP members encourage residents to reach out with concerns before falling victim to fraud or financial loss. The public is encouraged to contact the Detachment to discuss any suspicious online activity.
