e-KNOW awarded seven Digi-Tech Awards

East Kootenay News Online Weekly (e-KNOW) has received seven Digi-Tech Awards, Kootenay Business (Magazine) announced Jan. 16.

“Anyone who has sent an email, perused an e-newsletter, made an online purchase or commented on Twitter or Facebook knows that digital technology is an increasingly pervasive part of our lives. More and more, businesses are reaping the benefits of digital marketing, while still maintaining their presence in traditional print advertising venues,” notes Kootenay Business.

“With this in mind, Kootenay Business presents our first Kootenay DiGi-Tech Awards. We invited readers to vote online (naturally!) and are happy to present the results here. It should come as no surprise that many of the winners already have a well-earned reputation as exceptional businesses. Some of the winners are found on digital-only sites, while others make themselves known across numerous platforms, including a strong print presence.

“The big winner in the East Kootenay proved to be e-KNOW (East Kootenay News Online Weekly), while in the West Kootenay, Bumblebee Toys was a multi-category winner. Thanks to all who participated in this first annual contest, and congratulations to all the winners,” Kootenay Business outlined.

E-KNOW, based in Cranbrook, received platinum awards for: Overall website; eNewsletter; Facebook page; Website use of photography; and News website. It also garnered gold awards for: Twitter feed; and Classified ad website, behind platinum award-winning Kijiji.

Cranbrook-based Genex Marketing, which designed, maintains and powers e-KNOW won a platinum award for Web designer/developer (www.genexmarketing.com).

E-KNOW owner and editor Ian Cobb said the awards came as a pleasant surprise.

“It’s always nice to receive news like that,” he said. “We’re proud of where we have come in just over 18 months – from no readers and no media presence in the region to today, where we are getting 150,000 page views a month and steadily trending upward as more and more people discover our free website.

“We have an awesome relationship with Chris Botterill and Genex Marketing, who have provided yeoman service for us and are there when the technology gets too mind-blowing for an old ink-stained wretch like me, which is fairly regular,” Cobb said, adding, “It is also nice to see more and more people becoming comfortable with the Internet and social media as their means for obtaining information. It is a trend that is going to continue and it is exciting to be able to be the pioneers showcasing the changes in media and advertising delivery.”
