It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tim Rice, on April 12th, 2026, at Vancouver Hospital.

Tim loved the life he lived in Fernie, B.C. and often spoke of his love for the mountains.

Born in Collingwood on May 31, 1977.

He taught swimming and lifeguarded at the Centennial Town pool and Sunset Point. He learned to ski at Blue Mountain and attended C.C.I in Collingwood. He went to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. After graduation he ventured west to Fernie B.C. to ski with friends, for the winter. He loved it there so much that he decided to make it his home.

Tim met the love of his life Mireille Picard and for 20 years they spent their life together.

He was a devoted husband to Mireille, a cherished son to Barry and Ann, and loving brother to Lori and Ryan. He adored his nieces and nephew, Madison (Darian), Jackson and Brenna, and the Picard family who all offered unending support to him. Tim was also blessed with a large circle of wonderful friends, both from Collingwood and Fernie.

Tim lived a full and adventurous life, skiing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, golfing, and fishing, just to name a few of his activities.

He worked as Project Manager for large custom Chalet’s at the Fernie Ski Resort and surrounding area and was well respected by his peers.

Tim was diagnosed with Accelerated Myeloid Leukemia in July 2025 and underwent intense chemotherapy treatment at Vancouver Hospital.

Tim was a warrior when it came to his positive outlook and comic demeanor. He wanted to return to his home in Fernie where the mountains and his beautiful Elk River surrounded his peaceful home. Unfortunately, Tim was unable to return to Fernie as his cancer progressed very rapidly.

With the love of his family and the love of his life holding his hands, Tim peacefully passed away on April 12th at Vancouver Hospital.

He will be missed by all who knew him and held in our hearts forever.

A celebration of Life will be held in Fernie, B.C.
