Peacock Hospitality donates $10k to Fernie Field House
A local business has stepped up to the plate to help the Elk Valley Field House Society.
Peacock Hospitality is proud to support the community of Fernie, and the many local, grassroots organizations that make it a vibrant place to live, work and play.
Peacock Hospitality is pleased to announce its commitment of $10,000 to the Elk Valley Field House Society, to support the building and development of an indoor recreation facility in Fernie.
“We want to thank the Peacock Hospitality for this generous donation,” said Aysha Haines, Field House Society spokesperson. “Support from local business is crucial as we move this project forward.”
Over the past few years Peacock Hospitality has provided more than $150,000 in direct community support through its sponsorships, donations, and community grant program.
Peacock Hospitality owns and operates the Evergreen Apartments and Fernie Fox Hotel. In addition to their strong commitment to support the community, they are also committed to improving the environmental sustainability of their operations.
To this end, they have instituted a number of improvements to their properties, such as solar panels to provide electricity, heat pumps in residential units, and automated control systems in commercial spaces.
Elk Valley Resources kicked off donations to the Field House with a $1 million contribution to the project last year. The project has also received $525,000 in Resort Municipalities Initiatives funding, supported by the City of Fernie. Columbia Basin Trust has donated $500,000. Tourism Fernie has contributed $40,000 and the Fernie Volleyball Club and Fernie Youth Soccer have each donated $10,000.
Late last year the Society reached lease and operating agreements with the City of Fernie.
The 60-year lease will allow the Field House Society, comprised of volunteers from a multitude of local groups and organizations, to build and operate an accessible space for physical activity, social interaction, and community events.
The operating agreement stipulates the Field House will primarily be used for recreational purposes and for events and gatherings and that the society shall be responsible for the operation, cleanliness, maintenance and repair of the Field House.
