It is with profound sadness the family of Fred (Sonny) Martine announce his passing on Tuesday June 16, 2026 at the age of 89 years.

Sonny was born in Endeavour Saskatchewan to Eva and Ben Martine, and was the oldest of their four children. He moved to British Columbia when he was 15 and started working for Wilder Lumber and then for GLJ logging until he moved to Cranbrook in 1974. He continued work with Inland Kenworth until his retirement in 1995. After retirement he took up golf and became a fixture at the Cranbrook Golf Club.

He leaves behind his wife Jackie, sons Michael, Rick (Bev), step children Cheri (Gary), Alan (Kari), Gord (Laura), along with 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Sonny was a man of many talents, he was a problem solver and everyone’s “go to guy’’. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers etc the family asks that you make donations to the Junior Program at the Cranbrook Golf Club in Sonny’s memory.
