Fire visible from Creston is in Idaho

People in the Creston area or travelling along Highway 21 may notice wildfire activity to the south without seeing a corresponding incident on the BC Wildfire Map.

The Upper Smith wildfire is burning in the Idaho Panhandle, about eight kilometres south of the Canada – U.S. border and 20 kilometres southwest from the Town of Creston, BC Wildfire Service reported this afternoon (July 10).

“This fire is being managed by the United States Forest Service, it is not visible on the BC Wildfire Map because we are not currently responding. We will continue to stay in touch with our partners to the south and provide support if requested,” BC Wildfire Service said.

“Those in the area are likely to continue to see activity from this fire while the hot and dry conditions continue.”
