Philip M. Bortnik of Sparwood passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026. He was born on October 13, 1942 in Mcgillivray, B.C. Phil was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth, and Maxim and by his siblings: Stephen, Olga, Tanya, and Helen. The one survivor in the family is Max from Calgary.

A very special survivor from his family is Karen, from Sparwood, who, along with her family, assisted Philip in many ways to make his life more comfortable and painless in his last days of struggle. Thank you, Karen, to you and your family.

Philip began his work career as a highly skilled Morse Code Telegraph Operator with the Canadian Pacific Railway. From there he became a journeyman electrician specializing in industrial applications. He spent the rest of his working life as an electrician with the coal company.

Outside of his work life, Phil devoted himself to enjoying the outdoors. Mainly, however, Phil was an accomplished accordion player, and music was his passion to the end.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
