August 22 event aims to boost resident and visitor safety

Community partners unite to help residents and visitors live safely in the Columbia Valley

On Saturday, August 22, community organizations are coming together to help residents and visitors gain the knowledge and confidence to safely enjoy life in the Columbia Valley.

Hosted by WildSafeBC Columbia Valley, Wildsight Invermere, FireSmart Invermere, and Invermere By-law, this free community event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 12 Street Gathering Zone in Invermere.

The Columbia Valley is a remarkable place to live and visit, where communities exist alongside wildlife and surrounded by forests and mountains. This event is designed to provide practical, local knowledge that helps people live and recreate responsibly, protect wildlife, reduce wildfire risk, and understand local bylaws that contribute to a safer community.

“Our goal is to give people practical tools they can use every day,” say the event organizers. “Small actions—whether it’s securing garbage, preparing your property for wildfire season, or knowing how to respond during a wildlife encounter—make a meaningful difference for everyone who shares this valley.”

The event is free to attend and welcomes families, visitors, and community members of all ages.
