Mountview pedestrian safety measures going in

The City of Fernie today reported improvements are underway to install two marked crosswalks with curb extensions in the Mountview neighbourhood.

Two intersections, Mt Trinity Avenue and Mt Ingram Street and Mt Trinity Avenue and Mt Klauer Street, will be upgraded with curb extensions, marked crosswalks, and signage to improve the pedestrian experience.

The updated crosswalk locations will shorten the pedestrian crossing distances, reduce pedestrian exposure to traffic, improve visibility between pedestrians and motorists, and lower right-turn vehicle speeds.

Site work, including curbing and asphalt, is planned to be phased over approximately three weeks. While work is taking place, Mt Trinity Avenue will be open to local traffic only between Mt Ingram Street and Mt Klauer Street. Construction signage will be in place surrounding individual work areas.

This project wraps up a series of three traffic improvement projects throughout Fernie in 2026.
