The Rev. Dr. David Ronald Foubister, a pastor and New Testament Greek scholar who encouraged people to draw close to and live for Jesus, passed away on August 11, 2026, days before his 88th birthday.

Born in Vancouver and raised in Kimberley, B.C., and later Chilliwack, B.C., he had a strong commitment to family and a love of music and the outdoors. Ron attended the University of British Columbia, where he studied chemistry and physics and, through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, met Alice Ellinor Murton, who would become his wife.

After graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science, Ron continued his studies, earning a Master of Divinity at Knox College of the University of Toronto. He was ordained as a minister of the Presbyterian Church in Canada on July 16, 1964. Ron started his ministry serving rural churches in northern Saskatchewan, later leading Parkview Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon for eight years. It was there that he and Alice started their family.

Ron’s natural curiosity about the world and his passion for studying the Bible led him to be a lifelong scholar. In 1974, he moved with his young family to Pasadena, Calif., to attend Fuller Theological Seminary. While there, he studied the miracles of Jesus, earning proficiency in five languages and a Doctor of Philosophy in theological studies. Ron went on to hold pastorates at Eastminister Presbyterian Church in Edmonton, Alta., for eight years, and Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook, B.C., for 23 years. Throughout his ministry, he held leadership roles in the Presbyterian Church and supported youth ministry through camps and Vacation Bible School. Following Ron’s retirement in 2013, he continued to preach and play the piano at Knox and to lead services at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Kimberley.

Ron was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking them on mountain hikes, canoe rides, lake and ocean swims, and camping. He instilled in them an awe for the glory of God’s creation. In July, Ron celebrated his 64th wedding anniversary with ‘Al’ (Alice), whom he cherished and adored. He is survived by her, and his two daughters and their families: Ellen Rae and Peikang, grandchildren Anya, Ramon, Raissa and Rayhart, and great grandchildren Ethan, Allison, Elowyn and Kaspian; and Vida and Tim, grandchildren Anjali, Maia and Isla. Ron is predeceased by his beloved parents, Dave and Alida, his brother Ray and his son David.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11 am at Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook.
