John Gordon MANDERSON

John was born in North Battleford, SK on December 29, 1941. Throughout his life he has lived in a few places, spending most of his life in Beautiful British Columbia. He was at home surrounded by mountains where he could hunt, fish and go sledding with his boys. He raised those boys in both Cherryville, BC and McBride, BC.

He spent most of his life driving logging truck, retiring in his late 60’s. In the Summer of 2018, he moved to Sparwood, BC to be near John, Jacqueline, and his grandchildren. He lived here until his passing.

His favourite past times were spent watching sports on TV (especially hockey), constantly finding new hobbies, hunting, fishing, bow shooting and riding his e-bike. Since 2021, when he purchased his first e-bike, he put over 5000 kms riding all over the Elk Valley, often putting on at least 100km per day. He also liked to explore the backcountry in his little Jeep Rubicon, often taking that thing places most of us wouldn’t want to dare try exploring. We often threatened to take him in to get microchipped so we wouldn’t lose him out there.

He leaves behind his son, John; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, and grandchildren: Chloe, Alana (Brennon), and Kyle (Faith); sister, Kim; nephew, John; niece, Brenda, and many other nieces and nephews. Also left to live on without him are his friend, Rob Whiffen his wife, Maude, and their beautiful family along with numerous friends and family near and far.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy; his sisters, Betty, Donna, and Rita, his son, Gordon, and his best fur friend, Oliver.

John didn’t want a service, or a Celebration of life, but we will lay him to rest at a later time with a small private family gathering.

We would like to thank all the Doctors and Nurses who have been there taking care of him during his time at Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie BC. Our family would also like to thank Robert Whiffen for being such a wonderful friend to Grandpa when he needed one most.
