Kimberley RCMP Detachment member Cst. Mike Matteson has reached out to the community with thanks for its support after he was badly injured in a motor vehicle accident on August 5 on Highway 95A.

Cst. Matteson was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital where he’s undergone multiple surgeries, and faces a challenging road to recovery.

Soon after the crash a fundraising account was opened to help Mike and his family.

“I honestly don’t know where to begin, because “thank you” doesn’t seem nearly big enough for the kindness, generosity, and love so many have shown me and my family following my accident,” Cst. Matteson said on social media.

“What started as a challenging time for us has been made a little easier by the incredible people in our community. From the messages, calls, visits, meals, donations, and check-ins, to the countless people who have simply kept us in their thoughts — every single gesture has meant more than I could ever put into words.

“I have been reminded in the most profound way that we live in a truly special community. The way everyone has come together, offered a helping hand, and shown such genuine compassion has touched my heart deeply,” he said.

“To every person who has reached out, helped, given, visited, cooked, donated, or simply thought of me — thank you from the bottom of my heart. I may never be able to repay the kindness you have shown me, but I will carry it with me always. I am incredibly grateful to be part of such an amazing town,” he stated, signing his note from the entire Matteson family.
