2004 missing person investigation believed solved
Creston RCMP is providing an update on the disappearance of George Franklin Davis, who was reported missing from the Creston area in July 2004.
On September 24, a volunteer search and recovery dive team located a fully submerged vehicle in the Kootenay River near a location commonly known as the “Old Ferry Landing.” The team had been assisting the family in the search for George Davis. During their search, the team located the vehicle and discovered human remains inside.
Investigators determined the vehicle’s description and license plate were consistent with records associated with George Davis.
On September 28, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT) attended the scene and assisted with the recovery of the vehicle.
While the identity of the deceased has not yet been formally confirmed, investigators believe the remains are those of George Davis based on the vehicle and circumstances of the recovery. A positive identification is pending forensic analysis and confirmation through the BC Coroners Service.
Based on the evidence gathered to date, the death is not believed to be suspicious, and no foul play is suspected.
The investigation remains ongoing, pending the results of forensic testing and confirmation from the BC Coroners Service.
