Obituary of John “Mac” McGregor Thompson
John “Mac” McGregor Thompson
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, Mac (John) Thompson in Kimberley, BC from aggressive cancer. Mac passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Mac was born on April 1, 1948 in Sherridon, Manitoba. At age of four, he moved to Kimberley with his parents Jack and Jean, and sisters Pat, Barb and Bonnie.
Mac married Darlene in 1969 and together they raised their two children Tanya, and Shaun up in Townsite. He worked as an underground miner for Cominco for more than 30 yrs., until the mine’s closure.
Mac was an avid outdoor enthusiast, spending his younger years hunting, fishing, camping, photographing and exploring the backcountry. In later years, he grew to love golf and spent a great deal of time landscaping and puttering around his yard. He was also a daily fixture on the Lois Creek Trails, walking his much-loved dogs and enjoying the bush. Those who knew Mac will remember his quick wit and dry sense of humour, always offering his opinion. But above all else, Mac was a nature lover with a compassionate heart and a friend to all creatures, great and small.
Mac leaves behind his wife Darlene; children Tanya (Mark) and Shaun (Jan); three grandkids Lucas, Ella and Jake; sisters Pat (Therriault) and Barb (Bowness); many nieces and nephews; good friends; and his best pal Sailor.
The family would like to thank Dr. Buddo and Kim Miller for their kindness and caring over the past few months. In keeping with Mac’s wishes, there will be no funeral. Family and friends will gather in the spring at one of his favourite places to celebrate his life in the mountains.
