Adult Literacy and English as a Second Language Tutoring

The Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) provides training and coordination services for volunteer tutoring in the Elk Valley.

We offer free tutoring assistance to adults wishing to improve their literacy skills and/or English language skills.

In order to be a volunteer tutor with CBAL, one must attend the mandatory training (12 hours), submit a Criminal Record Check, and sign a volunteer tutoring agreement.  Volunteer tutors usually agree to two top three hours/week for six months.

We will be holding our yearly Adult Literacy/English as a Second Language training session on October 11 and 12 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Sparwood Public Library.

Interested individuals are asked to register in advance by emailing Leah Wilkie at [email protected].
