Ice raising banners in tonight’s home opener

Almost 3,000 tickets have already been sold for this evening’s (Sept. 24) Western Hockey League season home opener for the defending league champion Kootenay Ice.

The Ice opened the 2011/12 campaign with a shootout loss to the Red Deer Rebels, a team that appears to be a powerhouse heading into the season.

Ice fans can expect the thrill of seeing more championship banners rising to the rafters in the Cranbrook Rec-Plex this evening, before they take on one of their major rivals – the Calgary Hitmen.

“After the success of last year our home opener this season will be extra special.  Fans will be greeted to a pyrotechnic show and the unveiling of the Eastern Conference and WHL Championship banners stated club general manager Jeff Chynoweth on kootenayice.et.

Fans are urged to be in their seats by 6:54 p.m. tonight in order to take part in the banner raising ceremony and show.
