Suspected drug trafficker caught again
In less than a month a suspected drug dealer has been arrested for a second time.
On Saturday, May 25, RCMP executed a search warrant on Clarricoates Road in Meadowbrook. A search of the property and buildings found an ounce of what police believe is cocaine and $3,000 cash.
Four weeks earlier (April 26) the same subject had been arrested in Kimberley with 18 grams of cocaine and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was released by a Judicial Justice of the Peace under very strict conditions including ‘no-go Kimberley, not to possess a cell phone and a curfew.’
Police learned that the subject was still active in the drug trade and initiated another investigation. Considerable resources and police investigative techniques were utilized in order to gain sufficient grounds for a search warrant and facilitate an arrest.
As a result, Dustin McKay (24) of Meadowbrook faces several drug related charges. He went before a Judicial Justice of Peace and is currently in custody. His next court appearance is May 29.
To put the cocaine and cash amount in perspective, there was approximately one ounce, which is 28 grams. Cocaine is typically sold in one or half gram quantities, so potentially between 28 and 56 sales. The approximate price of a gram is $100, so the subject may have sold as much as 30 grams prior to his arrest.
