Some Wasa residents may have this week been celebrating the anniversary of their Flood of 2012 – toasts to getting past the damages caused and moving on.

But Mother Nature was apparently not satisfied with visiting flood upon the lake and surrounding properties – as she’s back again.

Regional officials are sounding the alarm, delivering sandbagging materials to the Wasa Community Hall and again warning residents to keep a close eye on the rising waters – almost exactly one year later.

KNWasa1The sudden surge of the Kootenay River last week, a waterway already formidable during freshet, saw it sloshing over its banks in a manner not seen last year, even though its surge was responsible for the flooding at Wasa.
