Members of the interested public are formally invited to participate in a series of Focus Group Meetings for the Elkford and Sparwood Housing Need and Demand Assessment. These Focus Group Meetings will be taking place both in Elkford and Sparwood between November 7 and 9. These meeting will provide an opportunity to find out what it’s really like for people trying to find housing in Elkford and Sparwood and how the lack of appropriate housing options may be affecting the broader community.

Topics for discussion will include:
1) What specific challenges are people facing in terms of:

Overcrowding? Homes in need of major repairs? Lack of affordability? Lack of choice? Limited accessibility for people with disabilities and other mobility constraints?
2) What negative are these housing challenges having both on area residents and the broader community, including: Family stability? Neighbourhood stability? Social isolation? Physical and emotional health? Success in school?  Operating a successful business (including recruiting and retaining skilled staff)? Diversifying the local economy? Community building?  Incidences of homelessness?
3) What are the solutions?
