RCMP reminds drivers back to school time nigh

Letter to the Editor

The Cranbrook RCMP has made traffic safety a priority for 2013/2014. The reason for this is that roadways are a very dynamic environment with situations and circumstances that can change quickly.

There is great potential for injury and property damage if drivers are not obeying the rules of the road.  Signs and signals such as school zones, stop, yield signs and traffic lights are but a few of the tools used to assist drivers in keeping safe while they navigate the city streets.  In order for these signs and signals to work, they first need to be seen then obeyed.

There is never a more important time for drivers to make and keep themselves aware of their surroundings, than the fall when our children return to school. These kids, from kindergarten right up to Grade 12, will be on the sidewalks and crossing streets in a very short time and the Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind motorists to obey all traffic laws and be aware of school zones within the city and our rural areas.

The Cranbrook RCMP will be out during the first week of school and beyond helping to ensure returning students are safe as they too navigate the streets of our city.
