Inspiring play coming to Wild Horse Theatre

Be inspired by the power of collective memory at the area’s exclusive presentation of Jake’s Gift, an award-winning glimpse of a Second World War veteran’s reluctant return to Normandy’s Juno Beach.

Fort Steele Heritage Town is pleased to offer this entertaining and creative show written and performed by Julia Mackey, a resident of Victoria with roots in England and hundreds of acclaimed performances behind her.

Jake’s Gift is a light-hearted look at the effect wartime loss can have on personal reflection and memory as seen through the eyes of an 80-year-old man and a precocious 10-year-old girl.

A discovery at the 2007 Victoria Fringe Festival, winning in four major categories, Jake’s Gift continues to reap rewards for Mackey across the country, including the Calgary Betty Mitchell Theatre Award for Outstanding Performance of an Actress in a Drama and the Royal Canadian Legion Media Award. Performances of Jake’s Gift have contributed to the Legion’s Remembrance Day activities by helping them raise over $17,000 over the past six years.

Suitable for all ages, Jake’s Gift will be performed at the Wild Horse Theatre on Saturday October 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Call 250-417-6000 for tickets.
