Hit and run investigation underway

rcmplogoCranbrook RCMP are investigating a hit and run motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday, Sept. 30 at the intersection of 21st Avenue North and Kootenay Street North.

The accident, involving a young male pedestrian, occurred at 12:30 p.m. but wasn’t reported until this morning (Oct. 1).

The pedestrian was crossing 21st Avenue eastbound towards the Alliance Church when a blue two-door sedan, proceeding southbound on 21st Avenue South failed to stop at the stop sign, failed to yield to said pedestrian resulting in the collision, of which knocked the pedestrian to the ground, inflicting minor abrasions and a sprained ankle. The pedestrian was treated at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for his injuries and was released shortly thereafter.

The pedestrian stated that after the collision the driver of the vehicle stopped, approached him and interacted in brief dialogue, however departed without any exchange of information. The driver was described as a Caucasian male appearing to be in his 50 to 60s, grey short hair, short beard, approximately 5’8″, wearing a checkered shirt with beige/light coloured pants.

The vehicle in question was described to be a blue, two-door sedan, possibly a Toyota, with a black interior and no car seat covers. The pedestrian was not able to obtain a licence plate.

Cranbrook RCMP are requesting that any persons with information on the incident, namely the make, model, licence plates of or the identity of the driver of the vehicle, or who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Cranbrook RCMP at250-489-3471 or if anonymity is desired, to contact CrimeStoppers at 1 -800-222-TlPS.
