The Crash Reel Feb. 3 at Vogue

Indie Films Fernie and the East Kootenay Brain Injuries Association are collaborating to present The Crash Reel at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Vogue Theatre.

The Crash Reel (USA) focuses our attention on the world of extreme sports. Academy Award–nominated documentarian Lucy Walker (Waste Land) delivers a deeply moving portrait of champion snowboarder Kevin Pearce as he struggles to get back on the slopes following a near-fatal accident.

Employing a wealth of exhilarating snowboarding footage to capture both the adrenaline-rushing thrill and the life endangering risks of the sport, Walker helps us comprehend Kevin’s willingness to take his life into his own hands once again while asking serious and fundamental questions about the entire culture of high-risk sports.

East Kootenay Brain Injuries Association (EKBIA) is very excited to be able to collaborate with Indie Films Fernie in screening The Crash Reel, the multi award nominated film about Olympic hopeful Kevin Pearce, who suffered a significant Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in December 2009 which totally altered the course of his, and his families lives.

East Kootenay Brain Injuries Association works throughout the East Kootenay, and with outreach workers in each area, Rachel Cline works specifically in the Elk Valley region. The East Kootenay Brain Injuries Association supports people who have had sports related injury, motor accidents, violent attacks, and strokes.

EKBIA is a not for profit association and are pleased to be part of the screening of this amazing movie which is about so much more than snowboarding.

The association hopes to raise awareness of not only the risks of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) but also the way that families can be supported who experienced such a life changing event, as well as raise some much needed funds to support their ongoing work in the Elk Valley.
