It is time to move on regarding DCCs
Letter to the Editor
RE: MLA Bennett and Cranbrook’s Development Cost Charges (DCCs)
Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett has most of his facts correct around Cranbrook’s DCC submission and why it did not proceed. The province did not reject Cranbrook’s DCCs; staff withdrew the application as it needed significant improvement.
Where MLA Bennett is wrong is in his finger pointing. CAO Wayne Staudt was very clear in his letter about how this initiative got off track. Council was not fully informed of the reasons at the council meeting where the resolution to withdraw the DCCs was discussed. Mr. Staudt accepted responsibility for that and was very clear in his letter that the province was in no way to blame. As Mayor and Council we very much appreciated CAO Staudt’s integrity and have long ago moved on.
While I do not always agree with MLA Bennett and Councillor Gerry Warner I respect their right to be heard. However, the residents of Cranbrook keep me very busy working on their behalf and celebrating their many successes, and it really is time to move on.
Mayor Wayne Stetski,
Cranbrook
