Gordie Johnson bringing ‘Sit Down, Servant!!’ to Bud’s

Music lovers in the Columbia Valley are going to get a rare treat, thanks to a former resident.

Debbie Fenton left the valley last fall to start a new life on Vancouver Island. Her departure left a gaping hole in the music event promotion world, as Fenton was responsible for bringing numerous top-notch musical acts to Invermere and area, including a smash performance by Big Sugar last year.

Utilizing her connections once again, from across the province, Fenton has secured another captivating gig for Invermere’s Bud’s Bar and Lounge on May 14, with Gordie Johnson bringing his new project – Sit Down, Servant!! – to the valley.

“This gives him the chance to combine blues and gospel with dub in his own unique way,” Fenton said.

Accompanied by Big Sugar drummer Stephane “Bodean” Beaudin and a Moog synthesizer,

Johnson’s electric set is a series of boot-stomping tunes, with most being heard by audiences for the first time.

“The musical talents of Gordie Johnson have long been an influence in the rock music world. His extraordinary guitar stylings are the driving force behind Big Sugar and Grady, two bands with a large following in North America,” Fenton said. “This is an excellent introduction to another side of the man and his music.”

Johnson’s mini-tour only features six dates, including the show at Bud’s.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.

“This is going to be a feast for live music lovers, a new sound from one of Canada’s best,” Fenton stated.
