Highway closure and smoke advisory

Summer travellers take note; Highway 3 is currently closed between Christina Lake and Highway 3B.

Due to a fire on the Paulson Pass, Highway 3 (pictured above) has been closed along that section of highway until further notice.

This measure is in place to protect the public from hazards as well as to ensure firefighter safety. For up-to-date information on driving conditions and road closures in B.C, please visit:www.drivebc.ca

As of 7 p.m., the Paulson Pass fire was estimated at 260 hectares.

There are 30 firefighters, two helicopters and six pieces of heavy equipment on site, with more personnel and resources on the way.

Also, Creston residents are advised that flames and smoke may be highly visible on Aug. 19. Idahoan farmers in a coordinated effort with U.S. Forest Service firefighting crews will be burning stubble fields in the vicinity of the Parker Ridge Fire as a proactive measure to prevent further spread of the fire.

A wind event is forecasted in the area for Thursday, Aug. 20, and this controlled burn of 800 hectares is to prevent the erratic and aggressive fire behaviour observed on Friday, Aug. 14.
